about
Imaginary Baseball League was an indie rock band from Murfreesboro/Nashville, TN from 2001-2005. The band released two EPs (The Letter/Cardiact) and one LP (Revive) and spent time touring the Eastern USA before quietly disbanding in 2005. Prior to breaking up, the band recorded a second full length LP that was never properly released. After nearly 16 years, The Inevitable Parting will finally see the light of day later this Spring.
When the first single, "Elliston," was written back in '04/'05, it was a cautionary tale about not losing who you are as the chaos of life takes over. After a decade and a half of rampant growth and development in our home of Nashville, the song now feels like a tribute to a way of life that's at risk of slipping away.
We had heard in recent months that Elliston Street's famed Rock Block was at risk of being the next part of town to get overhauled by developers. More recently, when it was announced that the property of Block mainstay Exit/In had gone up for sale, we felt that the moment was right to properly get our 16 year-old "Elliston" out into the world. "Take me to Elliston and fill me with sound" means the same thing that it did back then. The End and Exit/In have been the heart of Nashville's rock/punk scene forever. To be there has always been to be among friends, to feel alive, and above all, to hear great music.
Please consider helping to support efforts to protect this vital part of town. Visit savetherockblock.org and sign a petition, donate a few bucks, and stay aware of what is happening in our live music community. Your attention and support are needed more now than ever.
lyrics
"Elliston"
how do I convince you that I'm happy
when a bitch and a moan is all you've known of me
when a ring of a phone just makes me feel alone
oh, it's not for me
but you say that I've got a gift
well if so, why don't I know how to reap its benefits
I wake to work until my body hurts
I have ceased the search
you gotta take me out
drag me out on the town
take me to Elliston
fill me with sound
bind me and gag me if
if i try to resist
a dream, it is just a dream
until it exists
whisper something in my ear
a secret message that only I will get to hear
tonight I'll know that I'm the chosen one
over everyone
but I know you'll be hard on yourself
you'll work and build and store it all high upon a shelf
the world will never know of its own wealth
til you show yourself
so I'm gonna take you out
take you out to the crowd
show them your genius hands
they make me proud
bind you and gag you if
you should try to resist
a dream isn't just a dream
if we make it exist
you gotta take me out
drag me out on the town
take me to Elliston
fill me with sound
bind me and gag me if
if i try to resist
a dream isn't just a dream
if we make it exist
