"Steeple To Steeple" I never meant to lie when we poured eye into eye I will be by your side I will not run steeple to steeple the words, they just came out it felt so right that I had to shout it and I can not be blamed we play this game unaware of its evils I felt her in the night it was an evening with god we rose like angels in flight and you became a lost, wingless orphan we are on our own all alone left to find out for ourselves how to go on on and on never knowing if we'll be loved and you are a beautiful girl and someone has built you a home a home at the end of the world at the edge of where time stops and there is a house and dog and a family who cares but there is a field of dead between you and yours and there are pages to turn and there are bridges to burn and you may not get there almost nobody gets there but I don't need that place there is no way I would catch that train cause I do not need love it's not there it's just a delusional thread of desire a phantom fire set to steal us from ourselves and there's no hell no there's no hell just the cold of the soil

Elliston 04:13
"Elliston" How do I convince you that I'm happy when a bitch and a moan is all you've known of me when a ring of a phone just makes me feel alone oh, it's not for me but you say that I've got a gift well if so, why don't I know how to reap its benefits I wake to work until my body hurts I have ceased the search you gotta take me out drag me out on the town take me to Elliston fill me with sound bind me and gag me if if i try to resist a dream, it is just a dream until it exists whisper something in my ear a secret message that only I will get to hear tonight I'll know that I'm the chosen one over everyone but I know you'll be hard on yourself you'll work and build and store it all high upon a shelf the world will never know of its own wealth til you show yourself so I'm gonna take you out take you out to the crowd show them your genius hands they make me proud bind you and gag you if you should try to resist a dream isn't just a dream if we make it exist you gotta take me out drag me out on the town take me to Elliston fill me with sound bind me and gag me if if i try to resist a dream isn't just a dream if we make it exist

"Life As A Drone" television screen my crystal ball show me what I mean when I say anything at all I need I need a feeling I need something to care so send a vibration to my inner you my inner you cause I am feeling empty and I don't have anything to do turn on the news remind me that I don't have anything to lose except for you show me reality as I'd like it to be girls in sixty second spots blooming through their amber skin there's no need no need to worry, babe the world is a mall carnival and all the rides are safe we are cared for with a heavenly hand I am shaking what it if it is true that I am not alone what if I'm dying dying from the will to live life as a drone please walk me home and all the lovers the sand an army that could save the land oh but in a sea of kiss the fog of love will piss its gifts into the ocean blue but I still hope and pray that it's not true we're not alone we are together on this cruise it's sinking soon

Art School 04:07
"Art School" she met you while she was art school you shook her up and she quit moved closed to you you sung her heart and she hung your moon and that was the start but there was a tornado watch almost every night she'd throw her shoes out of the closet and curl up inside the hail hammered into the windows trees split into and so she did too last night she cried just before bed was it the cold rain or was it something I said when she gets sad I get ignorant I can't be the one to smother the burn bad weather is not such a monster for everyone but she runs to the dark of her mind with the setting sun but when she's all out of joy she still cheers you up she loves you enough stop asking how much and we stay in bloom through shivers and gloom and like the sun breaks the panes you light up the room and I'd leave Tennessee to keep you with me yeah I'd leave it all and I'd be happy

"Partners In Time" your folks were in love in the 70's I've seen your home videos they lifted you up on their shoulders you were the star of their show and as if they were inanimate smiles wrapped faces like scarves neverending, ever-bending unaware they would become scars and it's come to mind we are partners in time it's come to mind we are partners in time my folks were in love the 70's inside your same zip code preparing for the explosion of the familial fold but I have no videos to speak of just the grey of withered happenings just the pictures of smiles expiring just the sound of sadness sighing and it's come to mind we are partners in time it's come to mind we are partners in time and we took our trials to other towns to exact a rebirth of mind we kept the roots buried underground and out of ourselves we climbed we suffered through all the growing pains oh, we hunted and kissed and cried and failure's always probable when love is not on your side and it's come to mind we are partners in time it's come to mind we are partners in time you came to me in a dream you came to me in real life you saw the to the darkest part of me and in it you shined your light our folks were in love in the 70's but our folks, they gave up the ghost but we are in love eternally our children will get us both

Sara 05:33
"Sara" Sara stood up out of bed it was as high as she could get but the limit was the sky way back when she was a kid but now she's hooked on the casino cause it's always an open window that keeps the wind in her sails while everything in life just fails she used to be a swan now that bird is long gone flown from a property with no equity Sara buys a Sunday paper she likes to read wedding announcements was he the son of a doctor well if so I bet that choice pleased her father but it's not the sanctity of vows nor the white picket fence house but inevitable parting the ending of the dream starting the medication she's on keeps her moving along but she's still afraid to sing afraid that she will be seen and look like a fool like she did in '82 when he finally told the truth "I've found someone new." and you may think it is pathetic sadness must be genetic but if someone shot you through your window yeah, you may live to feel the wind blow but will you be able to stand up walk around or throw your hands up and if those bullets fly again what the hell will you do then?

"Outrunning a Funeral" on the trampled, beaten path home of the nation's flag old glory's biggest fan drives a Chevy Astro Van but that's not the only place it's seen we wear it on our sleeves like a tri-tone skin disease or a pair of Levi's jeans freedom rings from a bumper sticker anthems sing as our lights, they flicker boys my age in camouflage pay the earth a firm massage in the vehicles of war on interstate 24 but the pace, they keep it slow as they wave their kind hellos in their caravan of pain with me in the passing lane freedom rings from a bumper sticker anthems sing as their lights, they flicker

Gambling 03:34
"Gambling" it's storming in Nashville tonight I hope that I can keep myself dry the roof don't leak but I'm worried that it just might spring one soon and I won't know what to do but I know that it's sad I spent all I had I blew it all gambling trying my luck singing in clubs scrambling just gambling the radio rad-cons they don't like our kind they say we wake up drunk and die by the night and nothing we say could be worth a damn we're too high to hold a steady wage I bet we sold him his grande latte oh I know that it's sad we spent all we had we blew it all gambling trying our luck playing the clubs scrambling two hundred thousand miles our wheels may not survive another trip maybe it's time quit just settle down and start paying the bills I should really pay the bills oh I know that's sad I spent all I had I blew it all gambling trying my luck singing in clubs just scrambling but we all want to win so we try and we try again yeah we want to win so we try and we try again

The Road 03:16
"The Road" I've got a lot of things I'd like to change but there are a lot of notes outside my range when you were titty-twisting all the chubby kids I was in the corner behind my eyelids praying that you'd pass by but I've got all of my bags packed for the road I'm gonna catch the next comet out 'fore this place blows but I've got all of my bags packed for the road a girl came into the store today she had just turned 18 and she was ready to celebrate I asked her if she was gonna vote and she looked up at me and said, "No. I don't even know who the president is." so I've got all of my bags packed for the road I'm gonna catch the next comet out 'fore this place blows and I've got all of my bags packed for the road I've got a lotta things I'd like to change but there are a lot of notes outside my range

I Am Right 08:58
"I Am Right" nothing's even nothing's the same if I knew you forever this would still be a game and you would treat me the same I listen closely to find the crack in conversation it is my cue so come on come with me into my sea you'll see I can be what you need if you'll just come with me I climb up to your summit I speak softly if you feel soft and I watch you and all your motions I make the moves that you do so come on come with me into my sea you'll see I can be what you need if you'll just let me be I watch you breathe it's how I breathe I watch you talk it's how I talk I watch you walk I want to run I watch you run I watch you run so come on come with me into my sea you'll see I will be what you need one day you will see that I am right one day you will see that I am right I am right you never laugh at my jokes I'm always downwind from your smoke
